I’m in love (again)
I’ve been trying out this new program of Paint Tool SAI, which is an awesome paint package and I am absolutely totally in love with it. It makes increeeeedibly smooth anti-aliased lines, which you can’t get in Paint Shop Pro, and also it’s great for paint effects which is utterly brilliant if you are the kind of person who makes lots of mistakes and also can’t afford to buy real paints and paper. The problem is it is only a 31 day trial, what I am going to do when it runs out I don’t know.

I am also feeling quite utterly disillusioned with Paint Shop Pro at the moment. Firstly, if I use the graphics tablet, even on another application, I can no longer use the mouse to paint. I don’t know why, nothing happens, although the airbrush tool still works. So I have to exit and reload the application, which takes a while. Also as well, I am sick of it always crashing. Thirdly, you don’t get smooth lines like you do in SAI. I still think PSP is awesome for vectors, especially when you need to do precision stuff and might need to resize and tamper with lines a lot, but I hate the way the ends of the vector line are so blocky, you’d think they’d at least have a way to smooth the edges, but you can’t have everything I suppose.
Would anyone like to donate £40 so I can buy SAI?
What happened was, my How to Draw Anime book which I ordered last month, seems to have got lost in America somewhere – or something – anyway the upshot is, I can’t be bothered waiting for it, and £15 crumbs! So I’ve cancelled that, ordered it second hand and also ordered Manga for Dummies, which in total together, cost me about 12 quid.
Sooooo, hopefully in 2 weeks or a bit longer I should have my books, and by then I hope to be able to produce some new work and say What an improvement!

Aside from the squabble between Palutena and Medusa, things had been quiet in Angel Land lately. Callimachus was off-duty a fair bit these days, which gave him more time to spend at his woodwork. Right now he was carving toys for the younger angels at the Children’s House, which always earned him some brownie points. It was nice that Angel Land was at peace. But one needed some adventure.

Starting to write (finally)
I’ve finally got a lot (not all, mind, some I wanna redo as digital) of the pics for chapter one of Dreamsong ready. You see that? I even have a decent title now. And I’ve even started writing it! Though I haven’t got past the first scene. But it’s progress, yes?

I’m trying to get the hang of drawing with the graphics tablet, but I am finding it utterly hard as you can see. But the thing is, I am getting better.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! My head is just a blanket at the moment. Some days I can draw really well (by my standards I mean!) and other days I can’t draw even the simplest of pictures. The same with writing. I am still stuck on that chapter one first scene which I started a week ago. And it doesn’t help that my eyes are still bleeding from that frigging Adult Satan: Man Icarus in Labyrinth 3D model.

Have Factor 5 finally strung themselves up?
There are rumours floating around that they are closing down their studios – what a shame! And of course people say, this means there will be no new Kid Icarus game. Personally I couldn’t care less, I’d rather Brawl was his last ever appearance in a game than have him totally wrecked and turned into a 30 year old emo crim.

My three faves
It’s strange because I was just daydreaming about what would happen if Pit, Link and Ike brawled on the Skyworld level, who would be the winner. And I decided it would probably go to Sudden Death and then Pit would take out Link, and Ike would take out Pit. So it would be 1. Ike, 2. Pit, 3.Link.
Arright, so I put them all under CPU control at level 9 (how is it that CPUs play so badly at level 9 even yet they still kick my butt?) and you’ll never guess, but it did actually in fact go to Sudden Death, at 0 all. Pit was playing absolutely hopelessly I must say, only he did get the Final Smash which is what saved him from utterly losing. But the strangest thing was, in sudden death, Pit did actually take Link out straight away, just like I imagined, and he nearly took out Ike but Ike did actually get him in the end.
It is absolutely strange the way it worked out completely exactly the way I imagined it would.
Really, I think I play this game too much.

Did I tell you I finished Kid Icarus? Twice even. Yes and I have, too! Without cheat codes either. I was having so much fun that I forgot to get screenshots, though, till near the end.
The ending is utterly ghay, watch this:

Kid Icarus for VC only costs 500 Wii points which isn’t that much if your sister happens to have a lot of Stars 
And once you buy a legit copy you can just download the original ROM and play it on an emulator which has save states

I really hate Fail Factor Infinity (aka Factor 5)
This guy is so freaking brilliant
Why they’re not using his awesome Brawl design and making him look like a western emo Star Wars character is beyond me. FFS. Things don’t need to be dark to look cool, any of those Pit designs are using the Brawl design but making him look needlessly emo/darker, or too much like an adult. The game is called KID Icarus for a reason, Pit is an adolescent!!
Creating Pit like this will not bode well for Japanese sales, neither does Factor 5. I know it never did so well in Japan anyway, but his Brawl look is amazingly popular now. By doing this they instantly take away any popularity potential.
Angst is the total polar opposite of good. He looks like f***ing Anakin Skywalker with wings!
I don’t care if it’s concept art, if they had any brains they’d use his popular Brawl look, no redesign needed, that was already done.
EDIT: Oh, and the story of Pit as a fallen angel is total bulls**t. I hope it’s not real. It’s the total opposite of the way Pit is usually imagined. Why does everything have to be all dark and angsty these days!?

…In any case I don’t trust Factor 5 at all with this project, it they are indeed working on it. It’s not their area, I have no idea why they’d even want to take it. I looked at the list of their games, and oh dear, they’d be the last company on earth I’d choose to revive a mythological fantasy series.
I don’t get the need to complain and go on like they’ve ruined the franchise, the final product (if it exists) hasn’t even been officially revealed yet.
Saves me having to do it when the game “Kid Icarus: Pit’s Gangster Adventures in Hell” (Fan translated to “Adult Satan: Lucifer’s Epic Adventure”) is revealed at E3 in a few months.

The Tale of Kid Icarus
From the Kid Icarus – Angel Land Story manual
Let us go back to the distant past to an age when the gods and Man lived together in harmony. There was once a kingdom called “Angel Land.” This kingdom was ruled by two beautiful goddesses, Palutena who administered light and Medusa who ruled darkness. Palutena lived in the Palace in the Sky and administered light so that man could live in happiness. And bathed in this light man grew food and lived in peace.
However, Medusa the goddess of darkness was different. Medusa hated mankind. She took great pleasure in drying up the crops that man took great pains to grow and in turning people into stone statues.
In her anger Palutena changed Medusa into an ugly monster and banished her to the deep, dark Underworld. For being changed into this ugly monster and forced to live in the Underworld, Medusa promised to take over the Palace in the Sky where Palutena lived.
So great was Medusa’s anger that she joined forces with the monsters and evil spirits of the Underworld and Medusa’s army soon began to surpass Palutena’s army in strength.
Soon a war between Palutena and Medusa began. Medusa led a surprise attack on Palutena’s army which could barely fend off the attack. Palutena’s army suffered major losses and was heavily defeated in the final battle.
What’s more, Medusa’s army took the Three Sacred Treasures – the Mirror Shield, the Arrow of Light, and the Wings of Pegasus – away from them.
Almost all of the warriors in Palutena’s army were turned into stone statues and Palutena herself was imprisoned deep in the Palace in the Sky. The peaceful realm of Angel Land came to be inhabited by foul and terrible monsters and was turned into a land of darkness ruled by the wicked Medusa. Locked in the depths of the Palace in the Sky, Palutena’s strength was drained to its last.
As a last resort, she sought the help of the angel youth Pit who was being held prisoner locked in a deep dungeon in the Underworld.
Pit was a valiant warrior who used to be in charge of Palutena’s personal bodyguards. Armed with a bow and arrow brought to him through Palutena’s magical strength, Pit attempted an escape from the Underworld.
The guard at this time was low in number as Medusa’s army had advanced to the Palace in the Sky. Pit succeeded in his escape and set out on his long adventure to rescue Palutena. Yet to defeat Medusa he had to get the Three Sacred Treasures. Will Pit be able to restore Palutena’s light and return it to Angel Land?

The story of Kid Icarus is based on Perseus’s battle with Medusa. Perseus is given the mirror shield by Athene and a sword by Hermes. There are also three special gifts he needs to get from nymphs to help him in his quest, a bit like Pit’s power items given to him by Zeus. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of why Pit is called Pit – is there some significance to his name or was it just arbitrarily chosen? I would probably incline to the latter. Palutena doesn’t sound particularly Greek either, however I have noticed that Palutena resembles Athene in some ways in terms of being armed and owning a mirror shield.
Could Palutena’s name be a corruption of Pallas Athena?
