Back to the Drawing Board
Il faisait beau aujourd’hui. It’s surprising how much better one feels when the sun is shining. In any case I’m feeling happy enough to start my drawing lessons – as my regular readers (all one of them) will have noticed, there’s been a bit of a hiatus in the drawing lessons department. Anyways, I’m having another go. So let’s see what wonders I’ve managed to come up with!
This is the assignment that caused me to give up on the drawing lessons in the first place. A bit iffy, hmm? He didn’t give many helpful hints. The mountains totally spoil the picture, don’t they? I didn’t get that bit (and in fact, I’ve erased a few of the worst bits so the real thing looks actually worse). And it seems I’ve forgotten how to draw water
Anyway, I am still on the lesson of trees. Here’s one I made earlier:
yAy! Groovy!
Moar: well also besides landscapey things you know I also want to be able to draw decent anime-style peoples. Profile views are still a pain for me – the pokemon style is the easiest but not always what I want. Anyway what I have found is a super tutorial by Crysa on deviantArt. However when it comes to drawing profile-views she just says, ‘this is how side views look’ and leaves it at that. Helpful! So I’ve been doing a bit of… um… investigating! for want of a better word and discovered something:

Because the way I’ve learnt to draw is, always break everything down into its component parts and then construct the picture. So that’s what I did – I traced Crysa’s sample face and broke it down and you can see my amazing discoveries for yourself. My Kid Liquorice underneath is the result of these discoveries and was drawn utterly freehand using only the basic shapes and lines as a guide (ignore the crappy hair that was done roughly cos I was concentrating on her face).
So start with a circle, note down the radius, then at eye-level, draw a vertical line equal to the radius length to get the length to the chin and the length of the nose. Then from the base of that line, draw another line at a right angle, again same size as the radius, to get the position of the front of the neck. Super fantasticness!!

That’s me trying to draw Apollo cos he crops up fairly often in Dreamsong. Hmm, back to the drawing board I think!
Anyway whenever I try to draw a new character it ends up looking too similar to one of my existing characters. Sooooooooo, I’ve splashed out (£15 yes) on this book of How to Draw Anime and Gaming Characters, Vol1. I’ve looked at the e-book and it convinced me to bankrupt myself on buying the actual in fact real book. But I’m hoping it will be a worthwhile investment because…
I can haz commission!!
Baby Kid Liquorice
Stoopid hair
Whose daft idea was it to give Kid Liquorice psychedelic hair?

Everyone else: YOURS.
Damn.
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
I’m sure you won’t be the slightest bit surprised to hear I shrieked with joy when I found this in Smash Bros:

Osu! Tatakae!

Ouendan!

Princess Marth

Greaaaaaaaaat Piiiiiiiiiiiiizzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Isaac

Sqwii!!

They are based on stickers from an old toy teaset. I’ve always though they were utterly cute so I’ve reproduced the images and made a few changes. Took me about 2 hours for each picture, from the initial sketch to the final digital image. *sigh*
I’m working on two more at the moment, when I should be in fact finishing the pictures for chapter one of Dreamsong, but that’s me all over. Always starting and never finishing. *another sigh*
Twilight Princess and Cheer Squads!
The game I am playing at this actual in fact moment is called The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It’s not that good.
When it first came out the reviews were saying it’s the best game EVER! and Wow! It’s amazing! But I have to say I am not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. The mostly reason I am playing it is because of Link.

I have two problems with this game, besides being crap at it.
1. Link’s clothes at the beginning of the game. Why has he got only one sleeve? Do they not pay him enough to buy a full outfit?

2. The wolf thing. Actually it’s not as bad as I thought it would be, they have managed to make it credible I guess. What’s with all this shape-shifting? I also read that ‘in the manga for Ocarina of Time it says that Zelda used the Triforce of Wisdom to actually become male while disguised as Sheik, and sealing away the consciousness of Zelda.’ Honestly, what are Nintendo smoking? Seriously? Cos I want some
You see I’ve never really played a Zelda game before. I did play about 1 minute of it on the NES and was not impressed at all. It was harder than Kid Icarus even, which PS is not that hard once you know what to do, i.e. take it slowly and kill everything. Anyway I was always under the impression that Zelda was an RPG and I do rather like RPGs. Now playing this game I realise it is in fact an action game.
I am not good at action games. The only other action game I can remember playing is Soul Reaver, which wasn’t hard.
Really, I’ve never had to refer to a walkthrough so many times for one single game.
Also, it is annoying that you always end up at the ruddy checkpoint when you load. This was most annoying after I got that pigman in Hyrule Field, which took me about 5 attempts, then had to do the jousting thing on Eldin Bridge. I couldn’t do it after goodness knows how many attempts, so I thought, heck, I’ll come back tomorrow after I’ve looked at the walkthrough. But when I load, lo and behold, I have to do the whole frigging Field battle all over again, as if it wasn’t hard enough first time.
I do not think I am good at this game in fact.
The other game which I am even worse at is this game of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! on the DS. They do not sell it in this country, only in Japan, I had to get my copy from someone else.
It’s utterly an awesome game and completely funny and I quite fancy the guy with the big hair, I wish he wouldn’t look into the camera like that it’s very distracting.

How am I supposed to concentrate on anything if you shove that under my nose?
Oh dear, I made his mama spill the dinner. Oops.
The game I want to play now is Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.
What I also want to know is, why is Link right-handed in the game of Twilight Princess, but left-handed in Brawl? Pit is left-handed in Brawl too, but he is in actual fact ambidextrous.
I don’t need to get a life. I’m a gamer! I have loads of lives!
Starting to write (finally)
I’ve finally got a lot (not all, mind, some I wanna redo as digital) of the pics for chapter one of Dreamsong ready. You see that? I even have a decent title now. And I’ve even started writing it! Though I haven’t got past the first scene. But it’s progress, yes?
Not that anyone actually gives a damn.

It’s Jayce ![]()
I’m trying to get the hang of drawing with the graphics tablet, but I am finding it utterly hard as you can see. But the thing is, I am getting better.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! My head is just a blanket at the moment. Some days I can draw really well (by my standards I mean!) and other days I can’t draw even the simplest of pictures. The same with writing. I am still stuck on that chapter one first scene which I started a week ago. And it doesn’t help that my eyes are still bleeding from that frigging Adult Satan: Man Icarus in Labyrinth 3D model.
Anyway, if you want a preview of Kid Liquorice: clicky ici
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse

I’m going to warn you that the following link contains quite possibly the fugliest thing I’ve ever seen. Yes, it is even worse than the concept art. I am not going to post the actual in fact pictures here because I do not want to profane this blog with such s***.
Ready?
Sure?
Okay, here it is: Rumoured Factor 5 3D model.
And now have some eye bleach, you need it.

Did you ever see the like? WTF is that? What is that?!? What kind of morons can’t tell the difference between, on the one hand, a cute 12 year old angel boy and on the other hand, Ziggy Stardust? I mean that is enough to put Medusa out of business if she wasn’t out of business already?!!?!?!
Oh my gosh I could happily douse myself in petrol and set myself on fire, so angry am I!

Thank you, Pit! My sentiments exactly!
